Wireless
Has anyone got wireless to work in Slackware? If so how did you do it?
Thanks, -AG |
I've gotten it to work on occasion. Are you having a particular problem or are you just curious? Post a little more detail.

MrAnt
I have installed Redhat and have been using it for a few months now. It is very bloated. I want to give Slackware a try. The only way i have to access the net is via wireless. It works fine in red hat and i just want to know if anyone has got it to work in Slackware. -AG |
i havnt been able to get mine going in slackware or red hat. I have a sparkLan WL-383F usb wireless lan inside my laptop. ive tried everything. i have switched back to ME on my laptop now *sigh* until i can get xp back. the wirless lan was the only thing stopping me from using linux as its the way i get on the network at UWE

Yes, I got my Cisco 350 card working. I had some issues with the firmware however. If you encounter problems, check the makers site for linux-compatible firmware and flash that onto the card. This may help you too hurricane. But I don't think I understand: do you have an external usb wireless adapter? If so, I don't know what you can do, I've never used one of those.
Hope this helps |
Yes, I have. I have a netgear ma401 wireless pcmcia network card for my laptop. All I had to do was plug it in and it worked right out of the box.
bare.i kernel :D |

firmware issue too |
ok bare in mind im a complete newbie to linux :o)
how do i get it working??? :newbie: :newbie: :newbie: :newbie: :newbie: |
First thing you should try is just sticking it in. If you hear two high pitched beeps breath a sigh of releif and read up about iwconfig. If you hear a high pitched beep followed by a low pitched one, get ready for hell...
I exagerate. It can be really frustrating though. You'll probablly have to falsh the firmware to something Linux-compatible. But check dmesg first for the error. But just try it first and see what happens. |
802.11g
Elaborating on the subject, I have a pmcia card for the protocol 802.11g (and not b), a Netgear WG511.
Has anyone managed to connect to the wireless router with a card on that protocol? any feedback most welcome... L |
I have not tried it, but assuming your router supports 802.11g, I don't see why it wouldn't work. What's the problem you're having?
|
Sorry MrAnt. I am not being very clear. it is a PCMCIA card going in to a Toshiba Satellite. The latpo has WIFI built in but i could not even get it to work in Windows. I am using a D-Link PC cars.

No problem yet, haven't tried. I read everywhere that it is not yet supported, that is all... Whick kernel do I need to look into?
|
agallant, why dont you install slackware 9.1 - do the newbie install for everything and use the bare.i kernel. I would almost put money on it that it works for you by default.
|
its not an external one. its an internal built in the laptop thingy lol. it has a big blue flashing light that should flash constantly when it works.
