Slackware has cured me of my distro-hopping tendencies, but I guess you could say I've been desktop-hopping a little bit lately. This is my first foray into the world of Openbox, and I like it. It looks great and I can configure it however I want.

That conky with the Slackware logotype looks amazing.
I haven't seen anything like that before!

Here is one --

Since Slackware 14.2 includes Open Motif, it also has the actual mwm, I took /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.fvwm2 and cloned it to to xinitrc.mwm and gave it a whirl, maybe I will write a COBOL prog also and live like it's 1988 :)
mwm is also quite lite.

However I wonder if you can modify or select a different mode for the icons where 80% of each one isn't indistinguishable from another and rather fuzzy and drab? It seems to me that color recognition assisting text differences would make it more intuitive and faster to find a selection (I HATE searching LOL) but then again some people have high sensitivity to location and order possibly more exclusive than color.

Whatever the case it is obvious that you have an eye for detail and seem willing to put in the work so it's just an idea for a little tweaking, even shades of grey (no innuendo intended). :)

Big delay in replying here, sorry...

You could specify differnt colour schemes for icons in your .twmrc, section attached below. mine are done based on the name of the xterm.

Code:

##
# What to do on color displays:

Color

        IconBackground      "AliceBlue" { "root" "DodgerBlue" }
        IconForeground      "black"        { "root" "white" }
