Ah, I see. Now here you can see the preferences of different people. I would consider such a setup a waste of space, especially on a small 15" screen (I let conky print the information I want to see into the statusbar of my WM, use window titles only in stacked or tabbed tiles, my browser has no tool- or addressbar and very thin tabs, ...).
But then, I do that on my desktop with its large screen also, so I might be somewhat "special".

I also suffer from this increasingly common syndrome.
According to scientists/psychologists, it's called SSSS (Screen Space Stinginess Syndrome)and consists in excessive worrying about wasting screen space where a general rule is that the bigger screen space a user has, the more unwilling they are to waste it on bells and whistles. According to a recent study, users with small monitors are more likely to populate their screens with desktop widgets and icons whereas people with large screen space (ie. one or more large monitors) tend to use tiling window managers, have very minimalist statusbars and borders, don't use graphical menus and dismiss graphical elements such as widgets or icons as a relict of last century's wasteful and shallow culture of focus on external and superficial beauty.
The study concludes that there's no cure for SSSS and that we're all f***d up.
