A donation to the Slack Store would be a better idea. If you look hard enough on the Internet, you will find Patrick's PO Box in Sebeka, MN where he currently lives. Mail to his street address will not be delivered as far as I know.

Eric

Too late. The check was sent to the aforementioned address since no one responded in time. ;) Hopefully, he'll get it. The postal address listed on the Slackware Store needs updating to reflect the change in mailing address.

I guess it'll be OK then - I was under the impression you were aiming at Pat's private address instead of the Store's address.

Has anyone outside of the US received their subscription yet?

sycamorex 09-27-2009 09:33 AM

I haven't. Mind you, I didn't subscribe, just bought it the day after 13 was released.

I didn't subscribe, but, bought it after the release date. It hasn't arrived up here in northern Canada yet. But, the Slackware store hasn't billed my credit card so that's okay.

Not me, Slackware 13.1 will be out before I receive mine.

Noooo... People in the US have been receiving their CDs / DVDs, so ours are probably on the way. But international mail simply can take a few weeks due to customs clearing etc. :)

Yeah, actually mine should be on the way since my credit card was debited on September 17th. But, as you said, customs clearing, etc. could take some time. It usually does.

Not being funny, but you might be right and in that case by the time I receive my DVD it will be of little practical use for me. I don't regret buying it as a form of financial support for slackware, though. Next time, however, I think I'll just donate to the slackware store instead of buying a DVD. It will make more sense:) After all, when I receive the DVD I'll probably look at it, say 'sweet' and put it on a shelf (to never look at it again). I've already installed Slackware 13 where I wanted it to be installed.

niels.horn 09-27-2009 02:07 PM

I know the CDs or DVDs are of little practical use in the end, as we download the newest versions when they are released.
But there are two reasons why I have the subscription:
- it is a form of financial support to Pat and he can count on the subscribers to support him when he releases a new version
- it gives that nice feeling to have all those original CDs on the shelf :)

Whenever there's a new release I'm going to donate anyway. When it comes to having all those shiny CDs, it is really tempting:) but it means more work for Pat & Co. (taking orders/packing/posting, etc). I'd rather they didn't get distracted by such insignificant things - Let them focus on what they are best at, ie. coding, LOL

Yeah, I love having the original DVD in its jeweled case (they look great). My upgrade cycle to Slackware 13.0 is finished so I also won't be using the DVD when it arrives. My reason for buying each version rather than having a subscription is that it gives Pat a few more bucks in his pocket.
I also think it is very important that all Slackers make some type of a contribution to Slackware:
1. Help users here at LQ or on the ##slackware IRC channel.
2. Get a subscription to Slackware.
3. Make a donation at the store.
4. Buy a DVD or other Slackware products at the store.

(Some editing above by me)

I second (or third or whatever) the above! I think it'll look great in its jewel case too, whether I really need it or not.

If 13+ is already out by the time I get the DVD, it's not a problem. Theoretically, unless something goes horribly wrong due to PEBKAC, it should be not-too-non-trivial to keep up to date, or update, with or without the DVD. I won't really use it much probably unless I need to restore something I really screwed, but I do have all of 13.0 as an ISO, that I rsynced before it was officially released, on DVD anyhow.

And, no, I'm in eastern Canada, and have not yet gotten an email, or anything in the mail, and AFAIK the credit card has not yet been billed, last time I checked.

I got my subscription and then 2 weeks later I was charged again and got another delivery.... waiting for the store's response... I have lots of cd's now :)

Ilgar 09-29-2009 02:20 PM

I've preordered 13.0 (along with a t-shirt and hat) and I received them today :). Also, last week I got an email from the store about an old subscription that I've forgotten about (attached to a long dead credit card). I wrote back and got immediate response. So, things about the store have been working smoothly for me.

Alien Bob 09-29-2009 03:04 PM

I have a Slackware DVD subscription (I changed from CD set to DVD to get the dual-sided 32bit/64bit version) and a brown parcel with the DVD inside was waiting for me when I got home today :-)

Eric

niels.horn 09-29-2009 03:27 PM

Turkey, The Netherlands... Brazil will be soon then :)

dora 09-30-2009 01:02 PM

Add Switzerland to the list. My DVD subscription was waiting for me when I came home tonight.

mcnalu 09-30-2009 01:30 PM

Och, seems like the slackware santa has skipped over Scotland!

sycamorex 10-07-2009 12:38 PM

I must have been a good boy! Santa visited me this morning and guess what I received....:)

mcnalu 10-07-2009 12:53 PM

Yes, slackanta has visited me today too!

I'm going to use the DVD to install Slackware 13.0 on the first computer that I see (other than this one).

niels.horn 10-07-2009 12:58 PM

Nothing in Brazil yet :(

rg3 10-07-2009 01:17 PM

I got mine today.

hitest 10-07-2009 01:18 PM

Nothing in northern Canada yet.

ososid 10-08-2009 09:39 AM

Ordered yesterday slack 13 DVD and slackbook and after 10mins received an e-mail saying order just processed and will ship tomorrow (today). So, all I have to do is wait.

sahko 10-09-2009 02:53 AM

Got my subscription DVD on Monday.

Received my order today. Slack Store is just like Slackware... Awesome

niels.horn 10-15-2009 05:40 AM

Nothing in Brazil yet :(
But my credit card has been charged, so it's probably on the way... (it's a long trip from Slackware-City to Rio :) )

tommcd 10-15-2009 07:47 AM

I pre-ordered the Slackware 13 DVD and also ordered another Slackware mousepad from the Slackware store. The day after pre-ordering Slack 13 and the mousepad, I emailed the store and asked if they could hold off on shipping the mousepad until the Slack 13 DVD was available so I did not have to pay 2 separate shipping charges. I received an email the next day that the DVD and the mousepad would be shipped together when the DVD was available. This was before Slack 13 was released so I guess they were not too busy. They were both delivered a couple of weeks ago.
I had previously ordered Slackware 12.1 and a mousepad a while back and I received them after a couple of weeks. I have no complaints about the Slackware store. I am in the USA though. I would expect things to take much longer with international shipping.
BTW, Those Slackware "got slack?" mousepads are the best mousepads I have ever used. They are big and warm and fuzzy just like a mousepad should be.

Believe it or not, my Slackware 13.0 DVD arrived today!!!

It was posted Sep/17th, so it took over three months from Slackware-City to Rio de Janeiro... :(

But I had already updated my boxes with the DVD downloaded as a torrent (and uploaded more than 25x...).

Now I am very happy to have one more original Slackware box on my shelf :)

Thanks to the Slackware team and the Slackware store!

Nice! Good to hear, niels! :)
I'm still waiting for my DVD. It isn't a big deal when it arrives as I've been running 13.0 and -current since August.
