Next year, just for fun, let's regress back to Slackware 9. ;)

Nah, skip a few versions. Fedora is starting to move ahead again.

I cannot wait. I upgraded to 13.1, but now I am planning a clean install, with the intention of making the new system even more stable and better documented. This time I really want to keep track of ALL the changes I inflict to the stock configuration files in /etc, anyone knows of good way to do that? I was thinking git, but may be it's overkill. I guess, I could simply make a list of files I changed...

I split this discussion off to save hijacking this thread:

not at all :)
I think it's pretty common to use it on /etc, at least it is between my sysadm fellas down here :)

EDIT: ops, read GazL message now :(

So, the 666-posts theory has been vindicated :eek:

Let me add big a thanks to the Slackware team for a new release.

On a issue much to the side--I sent the info below to info@slackware.com,
but the mail server bounced my IP address as a spammer-- OK, I'm not a
spammer--I've never even been to Hawaii ;-) The ISP is cox.east--I'm just
sitting here at the end of a cable modem... Anyway, using the evidently
offending IP address, this is what I sent:

Hi,

One of the places I look for notices of software updates is

<http://www.icewalkers.com/>

You may wish to consider updating the Slackware description
given there. It begins:

"Slackware Linux 11 continues the more than ten-year Slackware
tradition of simplicity, stability, and security..."

Personally, I really liked Slackware 11, but since the current version
is now 13.37, and much has changed since Oct 2006, an update could
be useful. It is interesting that only the version number and the
"ten-year" designation needs to be changed in the first line :-)

The Icewalkers pages listing distros is at:

<http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Distributions/>

Slackware--and its nice "Penguin/with Bob" logo--is on the second page.

All the best,
Lawrence Toal

This is easily the most enjoyable build-up threads for the new release I can remember. :D

How do you think that Slackware.com or PV should control someone Else's content? You might think about contacting the webadmin at the site in question.
