I guess it's a classic slackware situation - Pat will send the answers when they are ready.

Now where have I heard this before...?

I just realized that Patrick Volkerding must have been the prototype for Morpheus in the Matix movie!

(When asked when Morpheus would take Neo to see the Oracle, Trinity replied something like, "He will take him when he is ready.")

His fame is greater than I had realized...

Hey here's one.

Did you read this thread? And if so did you laugh as hard as I did?

I did a bit of reading, and I know for a fact that Slackware 13.37 (without extra) includes packages containing software
- without a license to the source or parts of the source
- with a license which prohibits distribution of modified source
- with an explicit non-commercial clause in the source license

1. Does this seem problematic at all?

2. Is there a desire to see the licensing terms documented and categorized for all Slackware packages?

3. Is there a desire to see all non-free software purged from the distribution? (Granted that Linux kernel blobs shipped by Linus are OK for now.)

Thank you, Patrick, for the best distro in town. Praise "Bob" :p

So, I ha(s)te to jump in late, ;)
I couldn't help:
Pat:

A. Is it a nuisance to deal with the guesswork of "are we there yet" with each new release?
or is it fun?

B. Does it become increasingly tedious to make Slackware what it is, as the open source software matures?

C. Just how far is the open source world to the spirit of UNIX now? How do You feel about it?

D. Is it time for a next kernel (to fork from Linu's one) and get out of the hands of corporate "reason"? Is the kernel as is still considered optimal?

not that I hope they will reach Pat, but just in case they do?
:D
Best regards
Stevan C.

@jeremy
is there hope to "patch" the sent questions before Pat's ETA arrives? :^)
or a heads up note to him?

FeyFre 04-25-2012 11:10 AM

@SCerovec, don't worry, if Pat will be curious enough by our questions he already got, he probably will take a look here to(if didn't it already), and answer some extra questions if our luck.

Unless there is an extremely compelling question suggested, I have no plans to send any additional questions to Pat. The interview is already quite a bit longer than I anticipated.

Indeed very typical slackware...
Your brains are shouting: when! when! now! now! (also for a new release)
But deep inside you know: just relax, take a deep breath, and there will be a day that there's a sunshine in your eyes: the answers are there (or the new release is there...) and it's all clear and stable.

Sometimes it's difficult to keep your ego quiet... but when I boot up windows then I remember the real sh*t.... :-)

@jeremy
fair enough!
:)
kind thanks,
