Install Converter for Video Download Helper / libav

I installed libav from the SlackBuilds repo that Video Download Helper was complaining that it needed.

Code:

Executing install script for libavc1394-0.5.4-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz.
Package libavc1394-0.5.4-x86_64-1_SBo.tgz installed.

Here's where I downloaded libav-
https://slackbuilds.org/result/?search=libav&sv=14.2

For some reason I still can't download videos.

Here's the pages that Video Download Helper took me to for information on libav and details.

http://www.downloadhelper.net/install-converter3.php
https://libav.org/

Do I need to install gst-libav also?

Oh darn, let me see, I just ran that little script it gives you under sudo for system wide, I'v never had that issue, but I've had to just keep installing it one way or the other until I get it to work. then its fine.

then I switched to this one.

You built and installed libavc1394. That is not the same as libav.
The libav sources are a fork of ffmpeg that is not as widely used as its forkers expected.

Alien Bob 01-31-2018 02:34 PM

Also, it looks like ffmpeg should be used if libav is not found. From https://www.downloadhelper.net/conversion-manual

Quote:

Using the converter on Linux

When you run Linux, Video DownloadHelper tries to use the binary avconv, part of the Libav project.
However, if Libav is standard on Ubuntu, OpenSUSE for instance uses ffmpeg to perform the same tasks (converting videos).
So, if avconv is nowhere to be found on your Linux system, ffmpeg is being used instead.
Libav is a fork ffmpeg, and for now they are close enough to be used interchangeable.
OpenSUSE users reported success using ffmpeg with Video DownloadHelper.

Your right.
I installed the wrong pkg:- However I removed it.

I really don't want to install the libav-11.11.tar.xz because I've learned it's not good to mix SlackBuilds with regular tar.xz on a Slackware system. In fact a few of our members here strongly advised me not to do that.

This is the correct pkg right?
https://slackbuilds.org/repository/1...dia/gst-libav/

I'm thinking I should just download and install ffmpeg from here:

From the looks of it ffmpeg is not installed-

Code:

Looking for ffmpeg in package list. Please wait... DONE

No package name matches the pattern.

How would you fix this if it were your machine Alien Bob?

bassmadrigal 02-01-2018 12:06 AM

I imagine he would install his own ffmpeg packages. He has the "restricted" version which includes libraries that may be illegal to distribute in certain places in the world and a legal, free and open-source version.

Restricted
Legal

It's nice to be a Guru isn't it:-:D You've earned it.
If you find a prize, let me know:--lol!

Yeah I hope it works for me too.
I haven't tried it yet because I'm at crossroads with installing either ffmpeg or libav. Waiting to see what Alien Bob says.

Also I'm using FF 52.6 which is what was last updated the last upgrade on my Slack box.
I'll have to run the latest firefox.sh script to bring my browser up to date.

BW-userx 02-01-2018 02:05 PM

Guru and we're still asking how to questions, lmao

OK my Firefox I just added that plugin now I get this

Code:

$ ls /home/userx/dwhelper/net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.1.2/converter/build/linux/64

all of that added into its sub dir..

let me change its dir name and see if it will error again and give me the link to that sight...

https://www.downloadhelper.net/install-coapp
yep go there and take a look, hopefully this is not sidetracking you.

Linux - 64 bits - targz
Other linux distributions

undo the tar and run the script, you have to mod it first in either one you pick to run. their both screwed up like that.
Code:

        "path": "$(pwd)/bin/et.downloadhelper.coapp-linux-64",
open find the lines their are 2 of them, and add that /bin/ there so it finds what it is looking for.

Well, what do you think? Gah.

Ztcoracat 02-01-2018 03:18 PM

How do I mod the script BW-USERX?

Code:

bash-4.3$ cd /home/zebracat/Programs/net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.1.3/
bash-4.3$ ls
LICENSE.txt  bin          converter                setup-linux-user.sh
README.txt  config.json  setup-linux-system.sh
bash-4.3$ su -
Password:

root@redhatcat:~# cd /home/zebracat/Programs/net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.1.3/
root@redhatcat:/home/zebracat/Programs/net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.1.3# ./setup-linux-system.sh
Executable file net.downloadhelper.coapp-linux-64 is not in the current directory
root@redhatcat:/home/zebracat/Programs/net.downloadhelper.coapp-1.1.3#

Do I need to install ffmpeg before running the script?

after you untar it open it in your fav text editor then find the lines add the /bin/ to it save, make sure it is executable then run it.

if you run system
Code:

sudo ./setup-linux-system.sh
if you're not in root already.
