The point is that there are many people who aren't seasoned Slackware users and they read your posts, and ends with a nonfunctional PIM software - just like peoples started to believe that's something wrong with the kernel 5.19.x just because someone failed an experiment from unknown reasons.

It works for me, then it works for me.

Again, the Akonadi did the files indexing (and consumed excessive CPU power) in KDE4, which KDE4 is not present anymore in Slackware since release 15.0.

True, but first impressions also matter.

Perhaps, but if I can still get away with not having it - why can't I? Again it is my system, I can do what I want with it.

This is the false information you spread: that Akonadi consumes excessive CPU power into Plasma5, so no matter of your Thunderbird excuse, please be kind to stop this nonsensical Crusade against Akonadi.

I don't like Akonadi and it can die :)

Oh I love urban legends, creepypasta, paranormal stuff - so don't get me started on those :)

BTW, also there is not such thing like a Bad Baloo - there are only people who keep trucks of crap in their homes.

Let's do not blame a software or other, just because of humans' bad habits! ;)

What are bad habits? We are in an era with massive storage devices and multiple hard disks internal and external.

PS. The Akonadi was used to index the user files ONLY into KDE4, and this feature was moved to Baloo into Plasma5. So, today this Akonadi hattin' is just a proof of obscurantism. With all respect to everybody, the computers are was not built as applied Poltergeistism, on contrary! they are an exact Science, so let's look sober to software. Of course, I do not exclude there being people hattin' Calendars. Those Calendars are nasty things, specially the deadlines, BUT those deadlines will NOT go away with removing Akonadi. Never.

I'd like to correct you here: akonadi was never a file indexer, you must be mistaking it with nepomuk (which was a PoS, frankly).

For me, baloo was never an issue but I always used it with SSDs and now an NVMe drive.

Akonadi on the other hand can be a hit-or-miss situation: it's a cache for PIM applications and if you use Kmail you will probably hate it with a passion.

I've only been able to tolerate it on my new machine with an NVMe drive and 16GB of RAM, and sometimes it still gives me trouble (granted, I have 15 GB of local emails which I download via POP3 so I might be kind of an outlier).

So, no: unfortunately issues with akonadi are very much still a thing, and I hope they'll get fixed eventually.

Cheers.

Cheers.

It's almost always one of the first things I turn off in a new slackware install. Haven't missed it since it started showing up.

I dont even have a copy of John Wilkes's famous tome on my computer let alone any KB of porn. We did post a video of piglet dissection on the internet (youku) that was removed because it was considered obscene.

Akonadi really does suck and it uses up resources.
I am pleased to hear that others also have found they are better off with out it.

I suppose that those with small disks don't have to be concerned

This week in KDE: day color
Nate. September 2, 2022.
We’re getting close to the Plasma 5.26 beta and plenty of features have landed before the soft feature freeze–the point at which new features need discussion before being merge-able. Many are mentioned below! But now, the idea is to focus on bugfixing and UI polish for the next six weeks before the final release of Plasma 5.26, and assistance is greatly appreciated.......
