A Change in the Weather....

Have you ever had that odd feeling "the stars have lined up" and "something" was about to happen? Storm? Earthquake? ???

sevendogsbsd 04-30-2020 01:30 PM

Not really, except when I log into my FreeBSD workstation and everything smooths out and I feel at peace...:hattip: Of course that means I am off work and just shutdown my Windows 10 laptop so have been fighting with a nasty mess...

Unless I completely misunderstood your post, in which case I must say "never mind!" :)

The weather changes?

sevendogsbsd 04-30-2020 01:35 PM

Here in Texas, the weather changes every 10 minutes it seems...

Richard Cranium 04-30-2020 01:36 PM

The winds of changelog aren't hinting at anything extra-special.

It never seems to change on this side. It's always HOT and DRY.

sevendogsbsd 04-30-2020 02:06 PM

Ah, I am in south central and it's hot and dry now, but was raining and windy yesterday. 90 one day, 50 the next in March...after 20 years, I have grown used to it :)

AlleyTrotter 04-30-2020 02:28 PM

Gloomy and raining here in coal country Pennsylvania. Watching the gold finches attack the bird feeder.

baumei 04-30-2020 02:28 PM

Yes, a hurricane --> in the economic realm...

bassmadrigal 04-30-2020 02:41 PM

Sunny and 70s in Salt Lake City. My new grass seed I put down almost 2 weeks ago is finally starting to grow!

I'm expecting that my favourite BSD will release a new version tomorrow.
During this pandemic I regularly feel unsettled; I do not entirely trust my feelings these days. I am grateful to be safe, I have enough food, and my family is healthy.

Hear, hear.

In my forage area, the leeks are plentiful, and MORELS!!! have recently appeared, 4 weeks of God's gift to our eden, magic 'shrooms in the culinary sense.

stay safe.

Jeebizz 05-01-2020 05:15 PM

Climate change is indeed real, it is called seasons and we are heading into summer (unless you are on the lower hemisphere), which then you will have winter :p.

I have rented a town house in 10 Mile Road in Southfield, Michigan during a few months in 1987 and did observe sudden weather changes. One day people in bath suits along the pool, the next day snow.

Fortunately this was a quiet place then (we were just told to lock the car's doors when crossing downtown Detroit).

Now this. O tempora, O mores!

That would be related to 2 of the 3 rules laid out in the movie The Bucket List:
  1. Never pass up a bathroom
  2. Never trust a fart

Not sure what you are trying to point out :)

But I am wondering how much lower traffic and factory emissions is impacting Climate Change. I also wonder if this continues much longer if 2020 will not rate in the top 10 hottest years. IIRC that list is populated by all years since 2000. By that I wonder if it will break a trend.

I have noticed I can breath much easier these days.

garpu 05-01-2020 08:34 PM

My allergies are kicking my backside this year, and it snowed last week. It's very rare that it snows this time of year, though.

I said that too travelling westbound on I40 in May on my way to Nashville to catch a flight to Houston for a job interview, when a freak snowstorm hit. I was delayed flying out :(

I feel these changes, too. That's very cool. The most important thing is for this state of nature to last as long as possible.

My left knee always aches just before a storm, but the forecast is for clear weather........

We're finally getting some warm, dry weather up here on the North Coast of Canada. It's wonderful. :)

They call Prince Rupert the North Coast? I would call that the West Coast. I thought for a minute you might live on the Hudson Bay or the shore of the Arctic Ocean. :)

Yes. We're quite close to Alaska. We're the rain capital of Canada. Thankfully it has been nice lately. :)

That’s why where I’m from we call it the Wet Coast.

I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting your part of B.C. yet. All the pictures I’ve seen look beautiful. I hope to visit someday.

Midwinter in Paraguay, South America. Right now 19C (00:17), expected high: 32C.
Don't ask me about summer in January or February...

I'm not too sure what to really say in this thread, but
https://radar.weather.gov/lite/
Has some really nice and easily accessible doppler radar readings in gif form, for the USA.

Got it from this video.

I won't, is that normal for your Winter ?

Your Forecasted Temp is about the same as it is where I am now in Summer, and officially we are in a Heat Wave.

Yeah, it is. I remember a long time ago... our TV forecaster was a real meteorology man, very knowledgeable. We were in August ("in the bleak midwinter..." of the Southern Hemisphere) and the forecasted low was 20C and the high was (gasp!) 38C. The guy said something like this: "I was going to say that we're going to see temperatures way above the normal for this time of year but then I checked out the statistics for a year ago and on this day the high was 39C so I'll just say they're par for the course..." :D

Now, on a more serious note: we are a landlocked country with Continental climate. This means that we can experience sudden variations in temperature. Winter here is usually mild; an average winter day would be something like 12C to 20C. Sometimes we have cold days, with lows on 04C and highs of 16C, and also several hot days just like the ones we're experiencing now.

Summer is *always* hot and very difficult to bear without good AC equipment. A typical day would be 30C-39C. Winter is mild and nice, though.

Check the forecast: https://weather.com/weather/today/l/...97eb9e61eade10

Don't be scared. Paraguay is a nice little country, very hospitable.

P.S.: your location says U.S. -- where specifically do you live?

New Hampshire, almost directly north of you.

But yes, Paraguay always seemed like a nice place to visit. I new it would be a bit warmer, but not like that :)

chrisretusn 08-02-2020 09:52 AM

Wow. My sister lives there, in Littleton, NH.

Yeah, Paraguay can be warm :P Happy Slackin'!

Good things.

pr0xibus 09-02-2020 10:57 AM

Scotland here, we can get 4 seasons in 1 day sometimes lol

rokytnji 09-02-2020 01:21 PM

Ground shakes here about once a month < fraking quakes >

Heat this summer feels like a bad spot in the universe < built a huge car port in front of shop >

No hurricanes this year. No Tornado's locally. But we get windy from time to time.
Dry year this summer. < I don't water my lawn >

Still a happy camper though. My summer is coming < Winter for any of you north of me >. My lawn should get watered by mother nature by then.

Jeebizz 09-02-2020 01:55 PM

Everybody is screeching about climate change - a fancy term for - seasons. I may have pissed off St. Greta of Thunberg, and I don't care :)

-edit

Also here it is nice and cloudy and rainy.

I almost needed a boat to come home today in North Texas.

0XBF 09-09-2020 08:48 PM

Had to turn the heat on in the house with a frost warning last night. It ended up only reaching 3C but its crazy to think that a couple weeks ago it was hitting over 30C daily.

@ cwizard: I'm curious if the initial post was some sort of alluding to developments in Slackware-current, or if it was always to start a weather small-talk thread? :P

cwizardone 09-09-2020 09:23 PM

A friend lives in the S.F. Bay Area, where they had some very strange weather on Wednesday, 9 Sept. 2020.
He said that at 8:00 a.m. he noticed there was no sunlight filtering in through the closed blinds in his home office, so he went outside to find it was still as dark as it usually is just before sunrise. He went on to say the sky, in all directions, had a orange colored tint and it stayed that way all day, that is, it remained dark enough it was necessary to keep the lights on inside.
One of their local newspapers made this short video available on YouTube,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk_OWabJUys

The Wall Street Journal web site has, at the moment, a slide show of various weather related photos of the S.F. Bay Area.
Edit in: The slide show has been replaced with a video,
