32 Bit on Linux
I have a NVidia Vanta video adapter and a Compaq FS7550 Color Monitor and I want to know why I can't run X using 32 Bit. I can run Windows using 32 Bit and the pictures are way different but I am getting like 2D pictures when I am browsing the internet in Linux. Why? Does it have something to so with the Nvidia Driver or what? i would really like to improve my Linux experience :)

Ehm...2D pictures when browsing the internet?
|
perhaps he means the icons?

Frankly, I doubt your eye would be able to
tell whether it's seeing more than 16 Million colours (24 bit) ... And the colourisation has NOTHING to do with dimensions? Cheers, Tink |
Im having the same problem... is it possible to run 32 bits color at desktop and in games???
|
yeah tink. but its not about the eye! i cant run 32 bit in games either, thats what bugs me :(
|
same here with the desktop, but i think ut is working at 32bit at the mo

32 bpp in Xfree
Hello,
Perharps "startx -- -bpp 32" ? (Yes 2 "-" after "startx" et 1 "1" before bpp) after adding good 32bpp SubSection in DepthColor ? HTH |
Ive tried it, but it says my my video card does not support it. even tought it works in Windows.
|
never mind, that worked. but when i make x load 32 bits as default in XF86config it wont tought. any1 tell me why?
|
there is no such thing as "32 bit colour" - what windows calls 32 bits is 24 bit + 8 bits of alpha channel - X is more honest and just calls this 24 bit - so start it in 24 bit it is the same as windows in 32 bit.
|
11000 = 100000 ? :-]
|
How do I add a subsection with 32 bpp colors. I really want to know this because there is a huge difference between X and Windows.

you cant - set it to 24 and it is EXACTLY the same - X internally adds the 8 bits of alpha information, rather than pretending that theirs more bits of colour information.
as i said what windows calls "32 bit colour" is actually 24 bits + 8 bits of alpha channel, called 32 to make it sound better. |
