14.2 - canberra-gtk-play - failed to play sound sound disabled...

Hello,

I'm running 14.2 x64, and only Openbox as my DE...

I did an expert install, but running ldd on canberra-gtk-play shows me nothing missing.

Audio online through firefox works fine, audio through deadbeef playing mp3 works, playing videos through mpv, audio is fine, and playing a sound file with aplay works.

If I try to play a file with canberra-gtk-play I get this back from the term;

canberra-gtk-play --file /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo/bell.oga

Failed to play sound: Sound disabled

I added myself to to the group/audio, but it didn't help.

This is just a desktop with a single user, myself.

I'd like to figure out what is going on, transmission is what uses canberra-gtk-play for event sounds related to torrents and I'd like to figure out why it won't play.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS

Ok I just realized canberra-gtk-play works as root, but not as a user, and I've never had to do anything with permissions in the past, even on my other box that this works on, I'm not even in the audio group.

So I don't get why as a user I can't run this...

Hmm

Ok my bad, since I'm running Openbox only, I forgot to check ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

gtk-enable-event-sounds=1

It was on 0 now it's all good set to 1... :)

Still seeing this in 2020. Any other ideas of what could cause this? Already tried above fix.
