So what happen to Ta and MEPIS?
So now I read about Ta going with unbuntu and it's own tapioneer,
So what happened to Warren and MEPIS or how about Mandrake? or appgen.............. you might get the picture. TA seems to just jump from one "buckboard" to another as long as she thinks she can get a buck out of it. I like MEPIS, always did, and Warren should have known about Ta from the old mandrake days.:tisk: |
What? Who is TA?

When?What?Who?Why?Where?42!!!
Some juicy gossip there? |
Do you mean these people? http://www.tapioneer.com/

avoid |
What'd they do?
Sold you a threelegged horse? |
Missing the point here...
Other than a jumbled mess of a webiste, what is wrong with TA? or with Pioneer Linux? (Other than maybe being #86 on the Distrowatch hit list??) An how is this relevant to Mepis? |
Is this an anti TAPioneer thread??

Let's find out: TAPioneer is the best distro ever!!! Even got a sixpack with my CD's!!! |
down with TAPioneer, whatever it is.

TAPioneer were just at my house giving me a soothing neck massage - so that's good
Then I realised my CD collection had been stolen - so that's bad But my collection was horrible and I hated myself for buying it - so that's good then Hmm, lots of grey areas abound with TAPioneer. :) |
As far as I understand, TA is "Techalign" Inc. The used to sell Mepis with a tech support contract, among other services. The have recently come up with their own distro "Pioneer," which was at first based on Mepis but since late 2006 switched to Ubuntu. It's a "family" of distros, mostly geared towards enterprise solutions.
I checked them out a little, being a distro junky. But it looked like if you wanted to get anything close to the functionality of Mepis --or Ubuntu-- it was going to cost you some serious green. For the still curious: http://www.technalign.com/ |
T A and pioneer.
They must still be pretty good, as they are based on MEPIS, but it is like all the distros out that have kde. They are similar to MEPIS but it just ain't MEPIS. ;)

Actually, since sometime in late 2006 they're not based on Mepis at all anymore. It's a reworking of Ubuntu, as far as I can tell without actually getting it and messing around with an install. They don't even have a root account --just the sudo voodoo like Ubuntu. And the package mgr is "Adept" -- the new Ubuntu/Kubuntu one. It does seem to be a KDE desktop, so maybe it's closer to Kubuntu than to anything else. I think the only thing that might make it desirable for businesses is the tech support angle. I don't see anything about it that is an advantage for an average user. --SilverBear |
TA and MEPIS
Hi Silverbear. I think that using pioneer would be a step down from MEPIS. Like most distros are. But it could be good for businesses that need tech support for sure. :)

That about sums it up perfectly, IMHO.
