[KDE/Dolphin] Issues with Dolphin and io-slave.
So, I just installed manjaro 16.06 Daniella with KDE PLasma 5 a little while ago and I just updated my whole system, and I am stuck with an issue with Dolphin, the file manager. The debug it gives me is this:
Code:
Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: Code:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 98256 Jul 10 06:10 file.so |
Yea it's old but deserves an answer for anyone that looks at it.

The "Unable to create io-slave" usually occurs when trying to run program with login as root. Don't run as root. Use sudo (... or kdesu "<program_binary> options" in the *.desktop file). I ran Daniella (using Gellivara now) and never had that problem with Dolphin so it is not a general issue, although there is a general issue with dbus and trying to run programs(not just Dolphin) as root when logged into the Plasma DE as another user. IIRC, same problem exists/existed on openSUSE LEAP KDE ... ... *"All" is not totally correct but the differences are too lengthy/specialized to explain. Not all distros have made all the changes, yet. |

I too stumbled with that very same problem. I'd just finished a huge software update. My solution: Completely shut down the computer... do not choose "Reboot", then restart the computer. That solved it for me. What happened was after the big update I'd somehow got logged as "Root" and Netrunner had left me hanging as "Root". |
Thank you MikeyBrat.
For reference to any others that find this. I just installed Manjaro 20.?03? last night and the file system was fine. I opened the software installer & added a few programs. Then I downloaded something in the browser & got this error in the file browser when I tried to open the folder to view it. I tried a few things to no avail, but after "shut down" => restart, it's fine again. I don't remember if I had closed the software manager or not. I am/was going to install another package anyway, so I will install it & see if the error shows up after that, etc. I'll try to report back any more info in case anyone that can use the info to fix it may find this. Thanks all |
