B.S. Check the other threads here about using boot.iso. ALSO: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/in...opic=9345&st=0 You DO get "Official" not community via the network install. |
Funny stuff......
my first email to mandrakesoft using my @bellsouth.net account i was told to download it off of mandrakeclub though i VERY DETAILED put that im not a club member and they told me to download off of mandrakeclub!!(WTF?!?!?!??!?!) on my second email to mandrakesoft using my other email account ( emailed them about 4-5 days ago) and i put in it when (about) would it be release and even if it would be relwased to the public servers so the public can download it AND i still havent gotten a responce back and i dont think i ever will. that is ONE think i hate about mandrakesoft is the delaying for the public :( |
This is interesting......the question is then how the other sites get them out. I have seen torrents out there with the DVd but that will take almost the same time as to download it from other sources.....
The other question that pops up is why this particular release has been so delayed....It looks like the isos to the public will be released in december..... |
mandrake is cheap and want to squeeze the most money out of the packs before they give it out for free
(now downloading 4th iso and still have to do the 2nd bc it was corrupt) ( see i am paticent....... im use to 28+ hour downloads) |

I remember reading on one of the MDK news letter emails that there was a switch to how MDK was going to be packaged from 10.1 on. I wish I could get the email off my crashed system. It gave a short explanation to the change and the full story on the MDK site. What they both stated was the free public release would be now on packaged somewhat differently from the commercial release and known as the community edition. The commercial as well got a designation change to official and is packaged different on the cd's.
That was according to them take this into account though. I do know that one can use the 10.1 official regular and update mirrors to install packages along with update community eventhough 'packaged' differntly. I went to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and added sites from there. The whole download from the MDK club site is with membership you get the first 4 cd's as part of that membership and and new versions of MDK official's first 4 cd's for the length of the membership. I come bearing more then information. I come bearing gifts. Here are a few torrents from http://www.suprnova.org. This is the 4 Disks This appears to be the complete set of disks There is another one for the dvd version of the 4 disks but because of its structure the forum will not store or display it correctly. but you can get it in the linux section of the above url. I hope this a help guys. |
look what i stumbled on :)

Well it appears that I am not the only one who can search. See how hard was that imagineaxion and myself found it without any effort. I don't mean to be an ass but people come out here and expect us to do the leg work for them it seems. They swear up and down that they couldn't find it and how they looked for hours for this type of stuff exactly. This is the internet where you can find anything from the tame to downright cuff your ass and throw you in jail. You just have to know where to look

I want to appologize for my rant above and hope that the links can be used to help anyone who needs it. It is just lately now that I have been back out I have seen a lot of posts where the person wants something claims they can't find it and I could using google or a torrent site in less then 10 mins max litterally. It just gets frustrating, when I was a noob years ago, there were pelnty who were willing to help but not hand it over to you. How are you supposed to learn if it is handed to you?
I am even guilty of just handing things over like a config script or two that would get someones hardware or service up and running correctly without showing them how it works or helping them come up with their own. Not because I didn't want to but because they played being too stupid too well. I say the last statement with humor and am not trying to be rude or crass but on some level it is still true. The point of linux and this community is to learn. Not learn how to have someone else solve your problem. If that happened with me I wouldn't know nearly as much as I do about linux, networking, along with programming, etc. and I am still learning more everyday. More and more it seems we out here are becoming tech support other then a supportive community willing to point in the right direction or work with the person allowing them to solve it, learning in the process. Is it just me who has thought this? |
Opjose,
In reply to (Option2) during the network setup, midway through my screens changed to acknowledge it was 10.1 Official, then after it hung at the online updates had to do a hard reset and it booted up to an xwindow with the 10.1 Community as default desktop wallpaper. Kde would not load, probably due to update hang. Anyway, downloaded iso's from link in this thread and reinstalled. Iso install asked if I wanted clean install or upgrade from 10.1 Community! Anyway that was just my experience, I'm not trying to be argumentative. Don't know if the Community thing happened due to mirror I was using or update hang followed by hard resest or what. Still tailoring my box, but impressed so far. Maybe time to start supporting this distro through Mandrake Club. Maybe Xmas gift from me to Mandrake this year. |
Just to let everyone know both the 6 disk torrent and links work well off of this thread as of 11-28 @ 3:22am

As for the official release there are several versions starting with the official download edition which is free but doesn't contain any proprietory software such as flash, java and nvidia drivers. The next one is what they call "discovery" which you have to pay for. It has some of the extra software mentioned above, then you move onto the powerpack and so on, of course the price increases as you move on up with each pack containing more sofware and benefits such as support and club membership. cheers |
Community edition is the free final release. There is no public release of the official edition. That is their money maker so they give it to silver members all 6 disks bronze get the first 4 on mandrake club and thne they package it as discovery which is the same as being a bronze member of mandrake club. Then the 6 disks are the pwwer pack which is what silver gets and 2 more are added for the power pack plus. I am not sure if gold or higher members have access to those extra 2.
