openSUSE 10.2 w/ D-Link DWL G122 Rev.B - Cannot use network although connected
 

I did a fresh install of openSUSE 10.2 last week and it detected my D-Link DWL G122 USB Dongle in the installation but I cannot get it to connect to the internet properly. I've set the IP, DNS, Hostname and WEP key (128bit Open) in YaST2 network card module using the rt2500usb driver. It connects to the network but I can't ping the router or ping outside sites or anything, I am using the WEP key on Passphrase mode and dynamic IP. I've tried everything I can think of to fix this, please can somone help me...

I had EXACTLY the same problem as you after installing Suse 10.2. I'm still working out the major differences between 10.0 and 10.2, but the internet problem is one I've sort of solved....

Firstly, log on as root and try the internet. This worked for me, yet as a user I couldn't logon! Also, when setting up your WEP key, you probably chose the option 'open' o your YaST setup. Change this to 'shared key'. I have no idea why this works, but it does.

I'm still having problems though in that Kwifimanager detects a radio signal, records the strength of it, but then can't connect! Logging back on as root solves it...

The above may well help you, but please post what happens as I'm still working this out on mine and your feedback (and that of others) may help me too!

Try enabling Network Manager.. it works for me with that dongle, however i do occassionally get dhcp connection problems.

I have the same problem. Using ndiswrapper my dongle works fine until the next reboot. There is a conflict between the ndiswrapper and the embedded driver for rt2500usb. If there is a way to remove the rt2500usb driver from the system, the ndiswrapper will work fine. Please if someone knows how to remove the rt2500usb embedded driver tell us so. The command modprobe -r rt2500pci does not remove the driver!

I have jumped of Windows to Linux, having used distro Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft, but I was not able to make work my usb stick D-Link DWL-G122 C1 V3.

I proved with ndiswrapper and all the packages of www.serialmonkey.com, but I did not make it work.

I finish happening to openSUSE to prove if it recognizes the device, for that reason of which he is more complete, but is worse still, is completely off. I am totally lost and I want to investigate if it is possible to make it work in openSUSE, I have a mess of which chip contains my device and that package would have to install and from where.

SUSE 10.2 detected my G122 rev C1 USB device and automatically set it up as an Ethernet device using the bcm43xx module. Problem is it doesn't work with this module and settings. I deleted them in YAST and used Ndiswrapper 1.37 and the Dr71WU.INF driver. WEP works fine I haven't tried WPA yet using wpa_suplicant. I used the same Ndiswrapper method to get it working in SUSE 10.1 as well.

I have been able to make work my device in Ubuntu Edgy Eft. With openSUSE it could not use make or ndiswrapper. The problem is that Edgy puts by defect the module controller 'rt73usb', which is to eliminate with 'sudo rmmod rt73usb' because it works bad. Once fact this we can install driver rt73 of www.serialmonkey.com. Cool!

Hi all, I am on the same boat....I have been able to make my D-Link Air Plus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter (rev B) work with Ubuntu Edgy as well, but I could not crack the Suse 10.2. I tried Ndiswrapper with no avail. Suse 10.2 detects the card, but that's as far as it goes. I tried the Network manager and the traditional method and it makes no difference. I used to run Suse 10.1 without any problems.Dissident 0, would you be able to explain a little bit more what you mean by eliminate the rmmod rt73usb?

I just did a clean install of OpenSUSE 10.3 a few minutes ago and
I'm having trouble setting up my D-Link dongle too. I'm a total noob to Linux and I hope you guys are nice to me. I really need help on what to do/where to get drivers/where to set the damn thing up and things like that. So any help at all will be highly appreciated.
I've got the DWL G122 Rev.C, just so you guys know.

I notify you the default rt73usb driver also work fine, but you must raise it in openSUSE with the script file. (Tested in openSUSE 10.3)
