Electro, have you tried Starcraft with VMware's Workstation? Does it run faster (with the VMtools installed) than with Wine?
VMware creates a virtual machine, so you can run an OS such as Windows. Starcraft does run because it is running in its native environment. The speed is good and the reliablity is excellent but if you play a map with a lot of units then it has problems drawing fast enough to keep up. In maps like Matrix Bullet Time and 7vs1 insane comp will be a little instense for the computer to draw the screen at certain times in the game. VMware is able to keep up if someone is attacking you or someone else with several dozen of zerglings. The sound in VMware is sluggish, so I usually do not include sound in the virtual machine settings. It is possible to use sound USB devices in VMware, so the sound will probably be ok.

I use VMware on an AMD Athlon 700 MHz "Classic" with 512 MB of SDRAM memory clocked at 100 MHz. Virtual image drive is stored on a XFS partition and the image is sized to its full capacity (I think its 8 GB in size). I could of use my faster computer (Pentium 4 2.0A GHz) but it has hardware that is dependent on kernel version 2.6.10 and VMware can not compile its require modules with this kernel version.

I'm using WINE version 2005111 from source code (not cvs). I'll try upgrading it to the latest version this week. Try using CVS version.

Yeah, I've also noticed Starcraft in TransGaming's site as "works - no problems" (lol)... By the way, I used the version that comes as a default in SUSE 9.2 Pro "2004"..., later upgraded to "2005" with small display changes in battle.net, but none of them to "better", just "different".

I think alot of stuff is listed as supported on VMware's site,.. but question them.
