You may wonder what planet I'm from, but I'd like to see Corel WordPerfect. It has great PDF editing capabilities, plus just neat ways of doing things that are cumbersome with other office suites. And, my wife is addicted to it; it's our last "must have" Windoze program. Lawyers love it and don't mind paying the $300 list price. I've seen OEM versions going for $15. If Corel put out a free Linux version people would forget about Microsoft.

I tried installing an old WP version under Wine but could only get Quattro Pro to work; Presentations hangs, and WP just complains of a bad installation and bombs.

I'm also a WP fan (it's actually why I purchased Corel Linux, back in the day). I play with it under Wine from time to time - let me know if you get it working :D

photoshop, painter, any image and video editors. Linux is lacking in that part. I love the programs that exist. Indesign, or something like it. However at the same time I feel that indesign is very expensive and to me useless. I want something like it if they can't port it. But overall I'm mainly wanting video and image editors.

Nero

There is a Linux version of Nero. It works great in both Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10.

If I could run Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro on Linux, I could get rid of one of my windows computers.
If I could run Checkpoint VPN client and VMWare's Virtual Infrastructure Client on Linux, I could get rid of the other windows computer.

The client is coming, supposedly: http://communities.vmware.com/thread...0&tstart=0

It's certainly something I think we all would like to see!

It is not free. I think it is a 30 day free trial. Brasero will do a good job for most things. If you watch, Nero will put the Linux version on sale for about $10 ocassionally.

raju.mopidevi 12-04-2009 08:32 AM

yeah !! i know nero is shareware. tractor said that he is using it. that's why i am asking ......... whether he is using full version or trail.

DrLove73 12-05-2009 06:38 AM

I use k3b for my burning, works like a charm. All that I need for burning is there.

Hi Everyone,

I'll try to answer the different posts - questions - about Nero for Linux in this one post.

First, I was a total newbie in February of this year. I've progressed from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 to 9.10. I'm far from an expert yet, but feel very comfortable with the operating system, and have installed it on 13 different computers thus far. I still need to use windows for 2 programs, but 95% of my computing is now done using Ubuntu. I do run Dreamweaver 8 in Wine and it works perfectly. But I love Ubuntu and will never, ever use Windows again as my primary operating system. Yes, there is a learning curve, but the advantages make it well worth the time spent in learning!!!!!!!

Back in March, Brasero was not as far along as it is now. It worked fine except for making video DVD's that would play in DVD players. Thus my search for something else. I ran across Nero 3.5 for Linux. I tried it. It worked. About 2 weeks later it was on sale for about $10.00, so I bought it. Nero sent me an e-mail about 2 months ago that version 4 was available. Several weeks later they had a sale, and I upgraded for $11.00. The DVD's I burn are sent out to clients so I need to have DVD's which I know will work with a broad spectrum of players out in the real world. Since I've been using Nero, I haven't tried Brasero again. Maybe the issues I had early this year have been resolved.

The Nero 9 versions are windows only versions. The Linux version is 4.0. It is not shareware. You can try it, and if you like it, buy it. It is not as full featured as Nero 9 for Windows, but it does exactly what I need, and does it well.

To install Nero 4 in Ubuntu you need to download the debian version. Once you have downloaded that version just double click on that file, and it will install.

I hope this is helpful for those of you who have expressed interest in Nero for Linux.
