Text Document Library creation Tagging / Cataloging Program?

I can use f-spot for my picture files, miro for video, and Amarok for audio to bring all my files together and use and edit them. Is there a program for Ubuntu that lets you do the same for text documents?

A directory tree? Just create categories and subcategories, assign directory names to each, and drop the text files into the appropriate directories. Then use a file explorer to browse the tree and click any desired file, which will magically open in a text editor for viewing.

This is why there is no explicit organizer for text files -- it's too easy to implement.

Yea but what if I have files in multiple locations and for whatever reason want to keep them separate but want to be able to have a program that brings them all together in one viewer? For example my external hard drive, and my two internal drives.

I have trouble getting beagle to search through my text files, and what if the description/tag of my file is long, or if I want multiple tags? Am I just supposed to have a long ridiculous sounding title for the file? I don't have to do that for my photos, why would I hvae to do that for text files? What about scrolling through my text files based on their modification date? easy if they are all in one folder, but what if they are not?
