problems with gnome-panel and firestarter

Hi all,

Still trying to get to grips with linux and I'd really appreciate some help on this.

On boot both gnome-panel and firestarter fail to load (with firestarter giving a (fail) on the screen before login. Both can be started manually but that's a real pain and also when I alt+f2 gnome-panel any maximised windows will have their title bars/menus cropped off at the top of the screen. I'm not sure where I'd find the info that tells me what has gone wrong.

I'm on Ubuntu 11.04.

Thanks!

try installing fluxbox or lxde get into it and then remove gnome-panel and nautilus and then reinstall... could be a problem with nautilus as well.Create another user account and see if issue is resolved. All the best

Thanks rajeevrnair, unfortunately that didn't fix it. I can still get onto the gnome-desktop I just have to manually load both each time.
