Knoppix

Can anyone point me in the right direction, I am looking for a tutorial on how to use a live Knoppix CD to delve into a corrupted Windows XP system.:newbie:

Do you mean like browse the files on the drive? That's pretty simple. Hopefully, Knoppix detects the Windows partition (as well as any other partitions) when it boots and puts an icon for it on the desktop. You can double-click on this to mount it and browse and read the files inside.

The book Knoppix Hacks from O'Reilly has a section titled "Rescue Windows". That section covers
most of the stuff you may be interested in doing. There is a CD of Knoppix included with the book.

To add a bit of detail to the previous answers, Knoppix should detect the partitions (they are numbered, in /mnt. They don't name the operating system) and show them to you in /etc/fstab and /mnt. BUT, Knoppix won't mount them automagically!
You will have to maually mount the partitions.
If you are using the Linux kernel 2.6.X in Knoppix. (where X is a part of the release number) then write operations to xp are supposedly supported.

Beyond that, I'd suggest that before you try anything, use www.google.com/linux and search for info on HOW TO do whatever it is that you want to do.
