xine and divx

Can you add the divx codec to xine? If so please tell me how or where to find the answer! I have installed the codec and xine works fine for vcd and other formats but I can't find the info on how to add codec's:(

divx, persay is dead http://www.xvid.org , but if you insist on hanging with the win32 crowd isuggest downloading the win32 binary codec pack from mplayer's home bage, its in the download section under win32 binary codecs, next put those files within the bz2 ball into a happy littledirectory called /usr/lib/win32/ and now you will be able to be one and a half with anyone running windoze.

Thanks to everyone!

Mplayer worked just fine exept that it tends to crash when I go to full screen mode. I was just wanting to run Divx in xine so as not to have 2 apps! Is DIVX really dead? Thats all that I know how to use when i back up my DVD's to VCD. I presently use windows to do this, but I'm trying to get rid of microsuck all together! Do you know of a better way with linux? If you do please share it ;) . I'm a :newbie: but I'm learning fast and having fun with linux! I'm changing to linux on my network and killing off each windows box one at a time. Thanks to your help I may soon be able to tell microsuck to dry up and blow away!!

acid_kewpie 02-15-2003 01:29 PM

you can play anything just fine ni mplayer. as for the fullscreen thing. no idea, try using a different video output (e.g. -vo xv, -vo x11, -vo sdl) mplayer is a vpretty stable program for most people, if it's a genuine bug then tell them.

try out transcode and a nice frontend for it called dvd::rip to "backup" your DVDs
you can find these and almost all apps for linux at http://www.freshmeat.net

acid_kewpie 02-15-2003 02:40 PM

AHEM.... the only dvd "backup" gui legally* allowed to be mentioned here is MINE! http://acidrip.sf.net

* ok, not techincally true......

Still confused!

Back to mplayer! Kind of wierd and I'm not sure what to think. Mplayer works perfectly on KDE desktop and from command line. It only crashes in the gnome gui when going to fs. I can be in the gnome desktop and pull up a terminal and type mplayer -vo x11 -fs and have no problem at all. I don't want to just cry bug! I have looked at the man pages and I'm still not sure how to debug this. I'm thinking a gnome problem rather than an mplayer problem. I'm still very new to linux so:confused: . I'm at a loss. I'm happy with running mplayer in the KDE desktop, but now I'm curious!:Pengy:
Thanks to all for helping! This forum has been a big help!:)

acid_kewpie 02-21-2003 03:41 AM

any error messages? you should be using a better video output like xv instead of x11 if possible...

Grim Reaper 02-21-2003 04:09 AM
