creat samba share for DVD player?
i have a dvd player in my debian box that i want to share out to my windows box how would i go about that?
the mount point is /media/cdrom1 i sort of know how to get samba to share the /home/user directory, but that really is the limit to my samba skills. |
To smb.conf file add:
Code:
[DVD] |
thank you, that fixed some of my problem, now just to get the permissions right. when i try to chmod or chown it gives me a bunch of BS errors about it being a read only system and i want to get rx to everyone as it is not a burner and is only for local use.
Code:
media:~# chmod 777 /media/cdrom1 Code:
media:~# chown -R ray /media/cdrom1 edit to add: Code:
media:~# ls -l /media/cdrom1 |
if i can set permissions on the local system for this device to be accessable for the user, why can i not set permissions for a remote computer to gain at least rx permissions to play a video via the LAN over this DVD player?
what do i need to do to beat this system into submission to do as i want it to do? |
I don't I fully understand your question. Access to DVD/CD is always Read Only. So it's normal to get those messages.
If you write to your smb.conf those lines I suggested in my previous reply ANY user accesing via Samba wil have read permissions for files and read/enter for directories and will be able to watch DVD. At least I think so. |
