cannot install redhat 9.0

Hi
I just tried to install redhat 9.0, all the 3 disks check out correct(redhat 's integiry check passed them), however when i put the 3rd disk in to complete the installation it says the file is corrupted.

i tried the basic setup and a custom setup involving all the files.

i am currently downloading redhat disk 3 (shrike) again,(thought the previous downloaod was reported to be ok). i tried it once, but the dowloaded froze midway.

i tried to download of linuxiso.org:Pengy:

also make sure when you burn the ISO that you do it at 8x or slower. this often times helps for OS ISOs i have noticed. always better safe then sorry i say.

try it, you might get lucky that way.

I had the same problem with the 3rd disk as well, it took me two downloads and 2 burns. It did work that second time so stay positive :)

u would IMO be better d/loading fedora as rh9 I beleive is not being supported now by redhat.com but u can try out the link below
I got my rh9 as a d/load from their site http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html
try this link also which gives info on how to download successfully

I found if you were not closing the the disc when burning the ISO this could also cause this issue.

wogga 05-20-2004 03:09 PM

how do you close the disk?

what is the difference between fedora and red hat9.0

what do you mean by they are stopping support, will fedora be supported?

wogga 05-20-2004 03:23 PM

i was trying to find the image at a number of mirror sites
can you guys show me where i could find the shrike
(what is shrike anyway)

ftp://ftp.idyia.ca/pub/mirrors/ftp.r.../9/en/os/i386/

what is RPMS?

mermxx 05-20-2004 04:17 PM

shrike is the version of redhat.
redhat are stopping their free version of rh9 soon but they are replacing it with fedora
u can check out this link which will give u downloads for all rh9 x 3 disks and u can also check out fedora from this site :-) http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=7
RPM is simply a package manager

wogga 05-21-2004 04:39 PM

hey mermxx
i have tried to download from the link you mentioned a couple of times, but it fails on the 3rd disk.

what is a package manager?

tychojr1 06-04-2004 01:56 AM

I just downloaded redhat 9 from linuxiso.org with no problems. I assume you are on some form of broadband (DSL or Cable Modem). If you are using dial-up internet access trying to download a file that big.......no wonder it disconnects.

Package Managers are simply programs that are used to decompress and install programs on Linux machines. Kind of like "Installation Wizards" on windows machines. Except with Linux it's more manual than automatic.
