It wouldn't hurt if you had told us what distro you are running. And it would have helped as well if you had told us what software you were looking for.

Most packages are available in regular distro's, and you can simply use the package manager to install software. That is much easier than finding sources and compile those.

Well if you're using fedora, add RPMfusion, Rpmforge repos.

Debian Distro Stats on lenny... 22971 packages, 1933 maintainers, 59051 MB installed size, 20844 MB compressed size.
Debian Distro Stats on sid... 28277 packages, 2102 maintainers, 91088 MB installed size, 33739 MB compressed size. And that is why I run Sid :) .

what software are you looking for? what distro are you running? First use your distros package management tools and search for whatever it is that your looking for. if that fails google the app your looking for.

.. Well, for a start, you have the 14,000 available
packages of applications in the Package Manager =
' Add / Remove Software '.

And the rpmfusion.repo http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration
can add a few more.

Unless the OP is using multiple distros, this suggests that comments about Debian won't help him/her as there is mention of using yum.

How do I get all the latest stuff for Fedora using yum?
