Incresing the file system size
 

Hello,

If new lun is assigned to linux server.

How to extend the file system size with newly assigned lun..?
or

How to add this new lun to file system..??

You mean that your filesystem is on a different LUN and you want to extend it to a second LUN? You need a volume manager to do this, normally LVM. The filesystem must be created on top of a logical volume; you can then add the new LUN to the same volume group and extend the filesystem over it.

I suggest you read about LVM, for example the LVM Howto at http://tldp.org.

One more doubt,

We are able to see in /var/log folder files like messages0.log, messages1.log and messages

What was the difference in these files and what was the use of this files.

I had faced this one in one of the interview..

...asking about 'interview questions'. If you don't have the knowledge about such basic things, why are you interviewing for a job that requires you to know them? Not to sound nasty, but it doesn't seem like you've thought this through. The flaws:

• An interviewer can as ANYTHING THEY WANT, and accept ANY ANSWER they choose to. Asking for 'interview answers' is pointless.
• Even if you DO bluff your way into a job you don't have the knowledge to do...what are you going to to AFTER YOU'RE HIRED??? Ask your co-workers for advice about EVERYTHING? It will be VERY apparent, VERY quickly that you don't have the skills, and you'll be fired.
