Linux OS Upgradation


Hello Everybody,

we are planing to upgrade the RHEL operating system from RHEL5 to RHEL6.

Can you anybody please let me know,

What are the prerequisites and what are the file systems need to take backup and any document for Procedure..

In another case, if the system is not with RHEL Support,

What are the steps to do for RHEL Upgradation, Please let me know.

In this case, either get support or switch to Centos, which is a clone of Red Hat.

Some time ago, I converted my unsupported RHEL 6 system to Centos 6, but I don't have the instructions anymore. They are on the web.
Perhaps you can directly update from Red Hat 5 to Centos 6. Again, ask the internet.

Take a full backup so that you can easily go back in case your applications don't work with RHEL/Centos 6.
