I guess if one watches almost any film from 60 years ago, they'd find a fault. Is the entire movie a disgrace? I think not. Does many of the issues hold true today? Yes, Japan is a very closed society even today. You'd have to live there for a few years to believe movie has truth. Until then you can't possibly rate the film other than from acting.

Getting secrets out of some other countries is still impossible. Could some European Navy's have helped the men of the Kursk? Yes, but Russia let their own men die. Even in the midst of Japan's nuclear disaster they could have air lifted in generators but never asked for help.

An excellent example is some of the German prisoners of war housed in Texas. They were treated quite well by any standard. By their own memoirs, they had exceptional freedom and ate better than the workers who housed them. I know that Japanese and Russia POW camps murdered and starved their prisoners. To say that the Bataan death march was false is to say that the Holocaust was false.

Posting two sides of a story tends to be freedom. Posting only an OFFICIAL version is not.
