20-30 mio.

If LQ stood for 5% of the users the figure would be 20 mio which accidently resembles the figure at http://counter.li.org/ on 29 mio. Another attempt would be to calculate the number of PC's with the number of linux rates (after a scientific survey) (1 in 100)? We need a statistical scientist here. By the way 20-30 mio is ridicously low, we need to be 100 mio! |

I don't think you can correlate the number of downloads to the number of users, because it assumes that one download = one user, which isn't necessarily the case. Using myself as an example, I've downloaded at least 5 different distros from LQ ISO, but four of them ended up being not to my liking, and pretty much were one time experiments. As titanium_geek mentioned, there are a lot of people who may check out other distros from time to time, looking to see if the new distro is better than the one they're running now, but each download isn't necessarily a new user. As a result, a 1M user count would be the theoretical maximum, not the minimum. In any event, regardless of the actual number of users, we can all be sure that the higher the number of downloads, the more Linux users there are -- J.W.

lol ctroeker. Thanks JW.
Hey, stat question- is it picking up speed (more downloads in shorter time)? titanium_geek |
Number of disti downloads
Can anyone site a reference for stats on the number of downloads or implementations, comparatively, of the top Linux distributions.

rcmonroig,
This thread is almost 2 years old and fairly unrelated to your question. LQ ISO does rank the number of downloads right on the home page, however: http://iso.linuxquestions.org/ --jeremy |
