Whats the best customizable window manager?
 

I have seen different versions of Gnome and KDE, but i am unsure as to which one is better to use. I know its all about preference, but which is more customizable, has alot of features, and will grow with the times? If there is anything better then the 2 mentioned, i am open to all suggestions. I just want a very customizable and good looking GUI.

Enlightenment is very customizable, however the current stable release 0.16.5 i think is buggy and slow compared to fluxbox, but very cool nonetheless, and still faster than KDE/GNOME, but if you have the bandwith and tiome download the development CVS version that is really awesome, and when it is released as stable, im convinced it will enjoy a lot of popularity.
If you dont want to mess with development stuff, then fluxbox. It's small, lightweight, very fast, and customizable to a certain point. You can change themes and hack some things here and there in the ~/.fluxbox/init, but you can't change window frames, save sessions. have different wallpapers for each desktop, have virtual screens AND virtual desktops together, etc.. like in Enlightenment.

I recently switched to OpenBox and I loved it (it's another branch of the original Blackbox project). Personally I thought Enlightenment was a bit of a pain to use, but it looks like .17 is supposed to change that.

I used fluxbox, GNOME, and KDE. I'm running Slack 8.1 and KDE 3 is awesome. It runs all of my favorites programs without a problem. Besides, if you have an Athlon XP or Pentium 4 machine paired up with a Radeon or GeForce video card, who cares how big and chunky the desktop environment is. Performance issues are a thing of the past with Linux and today's hardware.

Try Windowmaker - www.windowmaker.org It's been around for quite a while and you can incorporate Gnome, KDE into it or have it run by itself.
