Your not going to get the greatest performance out of a machine like that but it should work ok. I run movies on dvd, ripped by acidrip on a 500mhz celeron and it works fine.

DVD:RIP is absolutelty great, I have been using it for a long time now, it rips, encodes, makes SVCD's, VCD's, mpegs, divx 4, divx 5, avi, ffmpeg, ogg...... the list of abilities is long, all with a very nice GUI.

I rip all my DVD's and create SVCD's with it. It is so simple, my wife who doesn't use Linux can use it without any problems.
You'll find it here.

You sound like you work for them or something...

Video::DVDRip is pretty good, i certainly prefer my application though as it's all in plain english and doesn't require any special settings or analysis, it's all automated. It doesn't have a lot of the more advanced features that dvd::rip has as I believe that if you want to use them you should know what they do first, and so can add them directly, rather than simply haivng a button for eerything it could possibly do. acidrip can do anythjing mencoder can do if you tell it to.

Nope don't work for them. Just love the app. It works great and the default settings worked great for me, it was a no brainer to set up.

When I find something I like I use it.

Haven't tried acidrip.
