Virtual Box - having a bit of a nightmare !!!
 

So far failed to get either RHEL 6.0 Eval or Centos to install on Virtual Box.

Should it really be that difficult?

No, it shouldn't be!
How did you try to install it?

I have not specifically tried either distro, but have done several others and had success

Centos seems to install ok and then gets critical error when it boots up. Gives me a large log file....(I've snipped bits out). See attached.

Give centos exactly 512MB of ram and try again. Also, make sure audio is disabled.

Funnily enough it works ok on vmware....

Still the same. Apparently the Xen kernel version doesnt work on VirtualBox?

I can just see I386 and X86_64 versions? Confused....

Are you using iso's, cd's or dvd's?
Also what Os & type of machine are you installing to.

Well I thought I would give it a go with Centos to see if I could find some pitfalls. Well I found one, but unfortunately struggling now to get out of it :(
I am booting from an ISO and irrelevant of which menu option i choose at boot it just hangs :( I tried several different memory combinations. btw. I was using the 64 bit version.

Not really helpful I know, but will keep looking at get back to you.

Sorry to jump in but I posted in the other thread of the OP, regarding similar if not the same problem. I pointed to this site where BIOS is referred to as cause (possible) of the problem you're having. I don't have any problems installing CentOS 5, RHEL5 and RHEL6 from ISO in VirtualBox 4.

Well I am not able to check mine until monday due to work machine was my test unit, but I would say i am already running Ubuntu 64bit and a LFS derivative of my own creation that is also
64bit and both work flawlessly?? So I will update on Monday, but not sure it will help me :(

I too am running a 64bit distro, LMDE with Liquorix 2.6.37 kernel and only have tried the 64bit versions of the previously mentioned distros. On the other hand I don't think it has anything to do with the distro being 32 or 64bit.

I stuck VirtualBox on 64 bit Centos 5 but with a bit of faffing about as Centos doesn't have the Kernel source files by default. Once I'd sorted that out and the VirtualBox kernel had been compiled and loaded OK, I tried the same 64 bit Centos 5 as a Guest OS... No luck as I was told I didn't have a CPU which could handle this. I assume they meant a virtual CPU as I'm running a couple of 3.6Ghz Xeons. Tried again with 32 bit Centos with no problem. Interesting... :)

Running a 64-bit guest OS in vmware or virtualbox requires the host CPU to have hardware virtualization support. Some Xeons do, some don't. Intel does not include this support in all their processors. Even if your processor does support it, you might have to explicitly enable it in the host computers BIOS.
