Sound problem
 
i have an intel i810 chipset and an AC'97 decoder.....my OS is mandrake 9.0
the trouble is that at startup there is an error that says something about CPU overflow.........basically i cant get a squeak out of the damn box.......i know i have to have the alsa drivers installed and i thinki do but still theproblem persists....could ne1 help me out!!!!!

I never have had good sound out of a built in chip, even if I could get it to work.

The SB Live is almost too cheap not to get now and has so much less noise.

I'm trying to get an onboard going...

...and I'm totally lost.

You might want to try editing your Bios and turning off Plug and Pray.

This worked for mine.

could you help me with that also.......how would i do that in KDE or GNOME for that matter.......and how in the world do i check my BIOS

BIOS settings: Whatever the mobo specs say. Google for your mobo

Lots of times its hitting the delete key on the speaker beep.

It may/probably will be different for a brand name box
