Recover Hardware RAID 0
 

Hello,

I had a user unintentionally remove a RAID 0 configuration. How can I recover them so that the os will boot again?

The data should be there, but the RAID config has been broken, and obviously, if I just recreate the RAID 0 config, it will erase everything.

You'll need to describe more about the setup of the RAID, hardware vendor, OS. Hardware RAID comes in many forms and can't help much if I don't know about it. Have you tried reaching out to the manufacturer of the hardware RAID?

Never done this with a RAID 0, but a while back I had an Adaptec RAID 60 freak out a bit after a power cable problem in the chassis cut power to half of the 24-drive array while it was running. After several unsuccessful recovery attempts, the tech support at Adaptec had me delete the RAID config, and then re-create it WITHOUT initialization, which brought it back online without any data loss.

Here is the overview:

Step 1, get a full sector-by-sector clone/image of each drive using gnu ddrescue
Step 2, virtually reconstruct RAID from the clones/images with a data recovery program (ie R-Studio) and confirm you can not only see files, but that they open
Step 3, rebuild RAID 0 with original drives (assuming that they are healthy)
Step 4, copy recovered data to newly built RAID

If the data is important to you and you don't want to risk losing it, you might prefer to seek assistance from a data recovery professional.
