Quake3 RedHat Install Problems

Can anyone help decipher and find a solution to my being unable to run Quake3?
I have a Nvidia GeForce256 vid card. USB sound speakers that emit sound fine.
Look at the bottom and you'll se some changes I made to the quake3 executable. What's wrong? it's like pk3 doesn't have all of it's files or something? Here' s a printout of the messages I'm recieving. Thanks for help in advance!!

[jason@redhat quake3]quake3
/usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3/pak4.pk3 (272 files)

you've not got a pak0.pk3 file. that's the actauly game file copied from your original q3 cd

jecoltrin 04-12-2002 12:09 PM

This may be a stupid question, but do I need to purchase the CD in order to play the game? I thought QuakeIIIArena for Linux was Open Source which meant "Free". :p

acid_kewpie 04-12-2002 01:22 PM

the linux executables are freely available, but not the actaul game itself. you can get freee multiplayer levels or whatever and play them tho.

jecoltrin 04-12-2002 03:33 PM

Come on, you're killing me! Okay, so if I can get and play multiplayer levels, how and where would I do that?

Will I need to uninstall or delete the previous 27MB download? Or will I still use that, but just download and install something on top of it?

My goal here is to actually get the game up and running to test my video, shoot some walls and maybe some bots. I could care less if I get online with other yahoos.

i dunno, have a searhc, all i'm saying is that ID are not gonna give away the entire bloody game. you need to OWN the original game...

jecoltrin 04-12-2002 03:57 PM

I gotcha. Okay, that's all I wanted to hear. Thanks for your replies. It looks pretty fun. Have you tried Half-Life running on WINE or are there any other games you like on Linux?

If you have the windows quake cd you can install it in linux by mounting the cd and then running the linux point release.
