Just out of curiosity, did you try to set "ao=" to anything other than arts? I had a similar problem and had to set ao=alsa9, I assume because my system's running alsa.

I had the same problem with mplayer plugin on firefox. i could see the video on www.quicktime.com/movietrailers but could not hear the sound. Here is what i did to fix it.
Goto: http://ftp3.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/ download: all-20050115.tar.bz2 extract all-20050115.tar.bz2 to /usr/lib/ must have root privileges to do that. name the folder "all-20050115" to win32 so now you must have a folder /usr/lib/win32 with all the codecs necessary for mplayer. now try watching the movie again and see if it works. If it doesn't let me know. |
I actualy had the same problem as cliff76, and the above worked! Thanks morneo!

My problem was something to do with oss. I switched to alsa and sound returned. I also configured mplayer to use alsa.

I had the problem with no sound and I followed the steps from the user morneo and finally got sound.
But the problem is now that I can't rewind or fast-forward (even when the next frames are already buffered). |
Figured it out a week ago! I was putting the codecs in the wrong place! I had them in /usr/lib/codecs and it appears that all multimedia apps look for them under /usr/lib/win32. So What I did was I created a symbolic link to the codecs folder under /usr/lib and called it win32 to replicate the expected file structure. Why didn't I just move the files? Well I was thinking that maybe somewhere down the road something would be looking under /usr/lib/codecs and I wanted to make sure it could still be found there.
I'm still having misc. problems with Xmms audio output driver. I choose the aRTs output driver and I get sound for a while. I then go home leaving my computer on but shutting down Xmms and return the next day where the aRTs audio driver no longer produces sound. I switch to OSS and I get sound! strange and I still don't understand the way sound works. Maybe someone can clear this for me? |
