Mandrake error messages
Why do I keep getting all these error messages?! The first time I booted to Mandrake Linux everything was fine. Then the second time I got this error:
Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: unknown protocol 'file' After I received this message it opened up KDE but there weren't as many programs and I couldn't really do anything so I shut it down. The second error message appeared after I rebooted: Could not read network connection list. /home/liesl/.DCOPserver_localhost__0. Please check that the dcopserver is running! After that I rebooted under my login but got the following message when Linux boots up: Shutting down NMB Services [Failed] What in the world is going on? Ughhhh, this is soooooo frustrating!! |
howdy. The easiest way to correct problems that I have found
is to simply start the install from the beginning again. This is coming from a relative newbie, I donīt know the console very well and my networking skills are rudimentary at best, but my last install has been running pretty smoothly for the last 6 mos. (few anomalies but not too nasty) so good luck to you. |
Now when you say reinstall, do I have to uninstall what I've already done or do I just pop in the discs?

Check you havent turned off the 'Network' service in the Mandrake Control Centre first. :)
To reinstall, just do exactly what you did to install, dont pick upgrade, and select to format the partitions before installation as usual. |
