installing grip with Gnome 2.2
 

Hi, I'm trying to install grip in Slackware 9.0 which comes with Gnome 2.2. When I ./configure I get an error on the last line of output:
checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found
configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnome-libs install

I've checked on this forum and think I've found that these are libraries used by Gnome 1 which are not included in Slackware 9.0.

I guess I can find a slackpack of gnome-libs in the slackware mirrors under the 8.1 directory, yes?

While I'm at it, are there other Gnome 1 libraries I should be installing in conjunction with this? Can I install gnome-libs without causing conflicts with the Gnome 2 libraries that I already have installed?

i installed all of those packages except gor gal-0.21-i386-1.tgz because that requires gnomeConf.sh just like grip does and apparently installing gnome libs didn't do it for me on slack 9 with gnome 2.2
i was wondering maybe you need gnomelibs-devel packages but i can't find them anywhere

i went back over my notes, and I just installed straight down the list and had no problems with gal-0.21-i386.tgz needing gnomeConf.sh.

Did you get it from www.sf.net/projects/dropline-gnome as neenee indicated? I did, and had no problems with it.

By the way, I also installed id3lib from linuxpackages.net. Someone told me you need this for ID3v1 and ID3v2 tag support in grip. I installed this last however, so it should have no bearing on your gal-0.21 problem.

my apologies: this version of grip is buggy. I will not encode using lame (at least most of the time.) I rip an entire cd and it claims to be encoding at about 55X and nothing is encoded. Then when I restart grip, it encodes one of the tracks and then quits. The help documentation freezes the app - have to kill. I'll just write a shell script using cdparanoia and lame, forget all this grip crap.

I've found a great command line ripper/encoder perl script called T.E.A.R. You can find it here .
I also had to install CDDB_get and id3tool. Both are on website above.

Make sure you put the tearrc file in your home directory as .tearrc or in /etc/ as tear.conf.

There is one error in the 0.4.6 version that can be fixed easily. In file tear, line 232, change this line:

if($conf{"MUNGING"} && $conf{MUNGING} != "No") { $munging = 1; }

to this:

f($conf{"MUNGING"} && $conf{MUNGING} ne "No") { $munging = 1; }

This allows you to replace spaces with underscores. Just make sure Munging = Yes in your .tearrc file.

I also changed the following lines to remove spaces, quotes, backquotes (`) from folder names:

To me this is much easier that trying to get grip to work on slackware 9.
