finally i install ubuntu, how its a long story, took 6 hours to install it,now problem is passward,at login i can put my username there then press enter and now asking password, when i try to type passward looks like my keyboard is not working, i can use only 1 button that is enter, when i press that it says incorrect password, guys help me to solve this problem plz

to install ubuntu i sacrifice my xp again.but i am still happy at last i install linux,

now guide me from there

finally manage to log in. but after that

no desktop, juat login name and a $ sign

plz tell me but to do after that,

try typing startx, or sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

If its not too involved, it would be nice if you could sometime post what the problem was and how you solved it. This may help somebody esle with the same problem.

Just so you (and anybody else who reads this thread) know, when you do a text mode login (as opposed to logging in using a GUI), you won't see anything happen when you type your password until you hit enter. This is normal and is done so that nobody can gain any information about your password from the screen.

actually it was my cheap faulty cd, i downloaded ubuntu again and burn it on new sony cd, and every thing was fine, and ubuntu installed and running. after that i installed on another disk as a duel boot with xp,both operating system working fine, but last time ubuntu detected my linksys wireless card automatically, but not this time don't know why,still thinking what went wrong,need some help plz
