When you try to install or run the live disk, how far does the installation go?
What is shown on the screen at the time of the system hanging? Ensure that you choose to see what is happening during the installation - somethig like 'show details' or 'verbose mode' etc. |
actually once i installed live cd,then i reboot, after rebooting i could not start window and either ubuntu, even my whole hard drive was f****d up and i had to reformated it and reinstall the windows again. after that i tried many time live cd, its always hanged in there,i flushed my bios to, but no solution, same problem again and again.
i want to hit my head on the wall's, please some one save me |
Have you tried the ubuntu alternate install cd?

At reboot did your PC's BIOS report something like 'non-system disk' or did the boot go beyond the initial stage?
It could be that your boot loader (GRUB?) failed to install properly? Have you tried installing again? |

It does sound as if your boot loader (GRUB) failed to install properly and caused some sort of failed Master Boot Record (MBR) error. Your PC simply could not read your hard disk drive as the initial instructions at the very start of the disk that explains how to start up (boot) were corrupted.
By installing windows you have overwritten the MBR with the Windows boot loader. I would; 1. Check your Linux distro disk/download. Is there an error in the .iso? Download the file again? 2. Resinstall choosing to low level format your disk. 3. If you can't download the source again perhaps use another boot loader (LILO?) if available. |

What do you mean by "I flushed my BIOS"?
Did you tried to install Linux on completly formated hard disk? Can you set GRUB to boot from root partition,or boot partition, did you create one? |

now i have windows xp working, and want to install linux as a duel boot.had a 200 gb hard drive and 7 partation, now you tell me step by step what should i do to install dual boot. thanx |
Sounds like you have some piece of hardware that Linux doesn't like. Are you using the latest version (7.10) of Ubuntu/Kubuntu? If so, and if you can boot off the livecd, try opening a terminal and running lspci and post what it shows. Somebody may be able to see what piece of hardware is having trouble.
