install compat-libstdc++ on RHEL4

What do I need to do to install the compat-libstdc++ on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4.0? Obvisouly, up2date does not work on RHEL4.
The reason to install this package is because libstdc++.so.6 is
contained in this package and I need libstdc++.so.6 to run some
applications. (BTW, is the compat-libstdc++ package part of the
redhat linux distro?) Many thanks.

libstdc++-devel-3.4.4-2

Will it work on Fedora 8?

I am told the compat library vary from version to version. I am using fedora 8 and installing as a 32 bit system on i386
