how can i reinstall gedit?

my friend has been teaching me linux and he's run into a problem, so i thought i'd see if i can help him out...

he accidently deleted a directory (not sure which one, but it must have been important!) and now he is unable to get gedit to work.

is there a way to reinstall gedit and any dependencies?

thanks in advance

gedit was probably in /usr/bin
the gnome libs were probably in /usr/lib
it would be hard to delete a directory and just mess up gedit and not
mess up a bunch of other stuff. if kde is working, you can run
kpackage.

If it's Mandrake, try uninstalling and reinstalling with the Mandrake Control Center software managemet.

You didn't install the developmental packages? As root, command:

urpmi mc

it was a bizarro directory like ORBit or some such thing that you wouldn't think would affect it... in fact, it was in a temp directory.

let me show my true :newbie: colors here... it IS Mandrake. how do you go about uninstalling and reinstalling it with the mandrake control center?

gedit works in other user profiles, just not under his anymore. right now, he's trying to move all his profile stuff and create another user and import the stuff back in... hope he doesn't run out of space.

Open the mandrake control center, browse to the software management area and try it out.

See the urpmi links for configuration.

the way you fix any of that stuff is by mailing me a case of every
Bell's brew made there in Kalamazoo.
