help in installing linux 2.4.23.10mdk
Pls am using mandrake 9.2 and have installed the default 2.4.22.10 mdk kernel. i want to recompile my kernel but learnt that i have to download and install the latest kernel because i need some new modules. i went to mandrake cooker mirrors to get the kernel. i d/loaded it and placed it in the /usr/src dircetory. its a src.rpm so i double clicked on it, it gave something "bad signature'. i dont know what this means. i then d/loaded a linux 2.4.23.tar.gz file and placed in the same folder and untar and ungzip-ed it but it didnt create a linux directory, therefore make menu config didnt run, what am i doing wrong and where do i go to get the correct kernel and what steps should i take. trying newbie here, any help pls.

I don't know why you downloaded the rpm and the tar file. When I made a custom kernel with drivers for TI-83+ cables, I installed the rpm from mandrake Install RPM thing and it made a nice folder in /usr/src/. Then, I put the driver in somehow, I don't remember how. Then, I followed the directions in http://www.linuxmigration.com/quickr...nel/build.html except skipping the part about getting the kernel and using "make install" instead of what they tell you to do at the end. It automatically makes a lilo entry and everything when you run make install.
make xconfig is better. |
