I don't know why you downloaded the rpm and the tar file. When I made a custom kernel with drivers for TI-83+ cables, I installed the rpm from mandrake Install RPM thing and it made a nice folder in /usr/src/. Then, I put the driver in somehow, I don't remember how. Then, I followed the directions in
http://www.linuxmigration.com/quickr...nel/build.html except skipping the part about getting the kernel and using "make install" instead of what they tell you to do at the end. It automatically makes a lilo entry and everything when you run make install.
make xconfig is better.
