Can I install Mint alongside Ubuntu?
About a year ago, my brother-in-law sold me a laptop that turned out to have a cracked copy of Windows. So it was sitting in the corner of my office, useless, until I happened across an article about Ubuntu, and the light bulb went off.
So I've been using it a few months and I'm happy ... mostly. I'm not entirely pleased with the interface, especially with the taskbar on the left. I just read about Mint, so here's my question: Can I install Mint alongside Ubuntu? When I did the original install, I did not partition the disk. If I try to install Mint, will I be able to partition it to run both? Thanks! |
Short answer, yes. It should give you the option when installing to shrink the Ubuntu installation and install Mint on the same disk (assuming you have disk space for it).
I had the same dislikes with newer versions of Ubuntu, and once I tried Mint, there was no more Ubuntu :) |
If you just want to test it out, I'd suggest running Mint on a USB or DVD drive before you worry about setting up an additional partition for a multi-boot system. If you decide you like it, you can just replace Ubuntu.
