Can I install Mint alongside Ubuntu?

About a year ago, my brother-in-law sold me a laptop that turned out to have a cracked copy of Windows. So it was sitting in the corner of my office, useless, until I happened across an article about Ubuntu, and the light bulb went off.

So I've been using it a few months and I'm happy ... mostly. I'm not entirely pleased with the interface, especially with the taskbar on the left. I just read about Mint, so here's my question: Can I install Mint alongside Ubuntu? When I did the original install, I did not partition the disk. If I try to install Mint, will I be able to partition it to run both?

Short answer, yes. It should give you the option when installing to shrink the Ubuntu installation and install Mint on the same disk (assuming you have disk space for it).

I had the same dislikes with newer versions of Ubuntu, and once I tried Mint, there was no more Ubuntu

If you just want to test it out, I'd suggest running Mint on a USB or DVD drive before you worry about setting up an additional partition for a multi-boot system. If you decide you like it, you can just replace Ubuntu.
