basic 256 freezes with Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10

Basic 256 starts up but after entering a few characters like print "hello" it stops responding. I have tried it on 3 machines, two running Ubuntu 10.04 and one 10.10. All have the same problem.

Thanks Drakeo, your first bit of help just baffled me, I am a "newbie", but the second bit I understood and will try out.
Many thanks Geoff1234

Hello Drakeo
Thank you for your help, but I have found another way around the problem. I un-installed Basic 256 from Ubuntu, then dusted off one of my Sinclair ZX81s which boots in 1 second (I am not a patient person) and has a syntax checker that spots typos. I am a sloppy typist. Guess someone much smarter than me will fix Basic 256 sometime. Many thanks Geoff1234
