networking in guest linux in vmware
Hi,
I have winXP as host and linux as Guest in Vmware. I have an internet connection with static IP provided by ISP. I want to access internet in host as well as in guest linux but I dont know much about networking so I am not able to connect to internet in guest. Could anyone pls help me... Thanking u in anticipation. |
I don't know anything about VMware, but I'm using vbox of sun and vbox provides two ways to connect to a network. Connection-sharing and NAT (name-adress-translation). Since you have a static IP, I think, you have to set up the vmware-network for NAT (that is what I would do with vbox).
The difference between connection-sharing and Nat is, that with connection-sharing your guest-machine uses the hosts netwok-adapter and then tries to get an ip-configuration from your dhcp-server, so that the guest becomes a member in your network. With NAT the guest gets its ip-configuration in a completely different (virtual) network on your host-machine and will not be part of your network, but can connect to the internet as well. Markus |
Hi, Thnx for reply
I have NAT setting in VMware as you have mentioned, but don't know how to assign IP to guest Linux? Pls tell me Ip configuration settings. |
It should work via dhcp.
How to configure the network on your linuxguest depends on the distribution, please post here which linux-distro you are using. Markus |
Hi Markush,
Thanks for your help. It works with DHCP:hattip:, Now I am able to access Internet in guest linux also. I am learning RHEL5 right now. |
