I don't know. There must be something missing that's not installed. My system already had compilers installed, etc. so it's hard for me to say exactly what's needed for this. I'm just an amateur that plays a Linux user. ;) |

Well I thought I did, I will go back and check. My one main issue really is to get the VGA port back working. When I got the box it had SLED but I did not like sled so I decided to put opensuse. Will putting the openchrome driver on the box get the VGA port up and going again or will I have to do something else?
Thanks for all the advise and help on this issue. |

Honestly, if you want a good working VGA out install Ubuntu 0804 or a derivative, use the Via Chrome9 driver and I can give you the xorg.conf file. I've used it myself for a projector. As much as I like openSUSE the community support behind Ubuntu is much better. Not to mention I need a good computer for presentations. The Via driver has much better support (IMO) for the hardware than OpenChrome does. I was only able to clone the output with OpenChrome, with the official Via driver, flawed as it may be, I get native resolution on my monitor and 1024x768 on the projector. |

Heck I will try it. I was reading around and I kept on seeing tons of Umbunto refs for these like thats what most guys seems to be using. Did you have any trouble with the wireless? Do you have any good list of repositories for Umbunto? I will play around with it today and see what I can do.

Can you get the xorg file?

The xorg file that I use -> http://morethan.org/mini-note/xorg.mini.gz this is not the one supplied by the Ubuntu wiki. |

This is the strange thing
I do the instructions, word for word. AFter I do it the LCD screen starts to scroll but the VGA port looks just fine. I can still log in and once I log in the LCD on the laptop comes up but it looks like crap and the VGA still works. Any ideals. The only part I cannot find or get to replace on the menu.ls file is the xforcevesa I still add the line. |

If so you don't need the xforcevesa statement. Beyond that, no I don't have any ideas. |

I must be missing something. Because no matter what I do the Video sucks on the LCD. When I clone it out to a external monitor is looks OK I think. I just do not know what I am doing wrong. about to blow it away and try sled 10 back on it. heck I would be happy with trying to know how to install openchrome driver. Any help on this matter I do very much apprciate

The only thought I had somewhat recently, did you install the Beta Via Chrome9 driver and use the xorg file I supplied? Or did you use the stable driver?

To be honest, I think I did try both. Got the same effect. Which one did you do?

I'd try the various Windows forums here: http://www.hp2133guide.com/forums/index.php Seems like someone has some hints for installing XP from a USB drive or something of the sort there. |
sorry if I wasn't clear enough, It's not about installing winxp, it's about getting help to boot the system to install whatever s.o., given the particular situation that I have no cd drive and can only boot from hd or lan
but thanks anyway for the link. |
