You should be able to find linux drivers for you PCI Card.. and also it will help you in the long run if you get rid of windows XP, since you won't keep running back, like I have been doing..

well, i just finished installing Fedora Core 1 on a dual boot Latitude D600...also a flawless install...again the only issue is the Centrino, for which Broadcom hasn't released a driver yet...all things in their time...
|
You would think they would have released a driver when they released the processor.. a ton of people are going to be using wireless linux on their notebooks with the centrino.. when they can get it to work..

Re: Re: X Resolution help on Inspiron 8200

Mine happens to be an XGA+ (IBM manufactured I believe.) I just bought another harddrive for my Inspiron 8200 and I'm putting slackware on it. I got the latest nvidia driver and modified my XF86Config file with 24bit depth, added "1400x1050" to the modes line, changed vesa to nvidia, etc. However, I still can't get it to go to 1400x1050. So, I went into KDE to see what it might tell me about the video stuff, and it didn't even show my geforce2 go as an nvidia option. So, I was looking at the monitor section, and it defaulted to [My Monitor] and wanted me to give it the horz/vert info, but that's info I don't have about that LCD monitor. On the other harddrive, I have windows 2000 and there I do have it set to 1400x1050. So, it will do that resolution. Looks like I need to go back and look closer at the readme to see if there is any specific info regarding laptops with the GeForce2 Go video. But, any advice on getting to 1400x1050 on this machine would be welcome. I've done the nvidia shuffle several times on desktops, with no problems. This is my first foray into doing it on a laptop. |
