timeout on eth0
hello.
I am having trouble getting connected to the net. I have a broadcom bcm4400 that comes with the asus motherboards (its and on board nic). There is a module for it called b44. I have not had any problems with up until yesterday. I dual boot to play some games in windows and I updated the drivers for the card in windows. Then when I reboot to linux "dmesg" spits out "timeout waiting for bit 80000000 of register 428 to clear" over and over again when loading the card The modules loaded correctly and I can use the card in windows so I am stumped. I even tried to recompile the kernel as I thought maybe I had a corrupt module but to no avail. when typing "service network start" in fedora it says link is down, check cable. I have not had a problem with this card for almost a year using debian, fedora, and slack. anyone have any ideas? |
Have you tried to cold-boot to linux directly?

Also, the windows update might have updated the card, so it's possible that you might have to get the BCM4400 module, and recompile it (or at least remove it from the kernel, and add it back to the kernel), to cope with any changes the windows driver might have made to the firmware. I'd go with ToniT's comment first, however, then work from there. It also might not hurt to see if broadcom/your card maker has a Linux update as well.

grabbing the module from the broadcom site worked
thanks for the tips, both of you |
